Homemade folding scope mount for a Kel-Tec sub2000 rifle
My father shared his interest of mounting an optic (he picked a tru-glo 2X red dot) on his sub2000, but didn’t want to lose the rifle’s folding ability, or to need to remove the optic and/or mount to fold it. I told my cousin about the idea (we are both machinists), and within a day he called me with the idea of using a spring-loaded door hinge. Well, I headed of to the hardware store, and found a 4″ spring door hinge for $15.00, and it even came with a nice black powder coat! The spring’s tension is adjustable, and quite powerful on it’s lowest adjustment (which I used). It simply mounts to a steel plate inside the front handguard, and has a 1913 style rail screwed into the other side. All of the work was fairly simple to do with a manual vertical mill, and only took about 2 1/2 hours. As I state in the video, I recommend tapping the holes on the mounting plate a bit closer to the edges, just to keep the clearance holes in the handguard a bit further from the edges (where they meet in the center). Anyway, it has worked great for us so far, with several hundred rounds down range, with no stray from zero. Feel free to put this video wherever you like, and if you are interested in a copy of my plans, just send me a message, and I’m sure we can work something out. Thank you all for watching, please enjoy, and subscribe to see any future projects. -proto-
